Gold Thread Reserve is our finest Chinese black tea, cultivated inFengqing County of Yunnan Province. This tea is crafted solelyfromyoungleaf buds, individually harvested by handtodeliver complex aromatics,sweetness, and abeautifully persistent finish.

Developed in the late 1930’s, Gold Thread Reserve is alternatively known as Jin SiDian Hong. Jin Simeans “gold silk” in Chinese, while Dian Hongmeans “Yunnanese black tea”. The tea was crafted from the buds of the Da Ye (or assamica) tea variety, an indigenous cultivartraditionally used to produce Pu-erh tea.

Once harvested, the tea is left to sun wither, a step that breaks down the tea’s cell walls and begins the enzymatic oxidation process. Once withered, the tea budsare bruised and allowed to restuntil they turn from green to a beautiful gold, at which point the tea is given its final roast.

The result is breathtakinglysmooth, aromatic, and complex. The reddish-goldinfusion yields a malty sweetness with notes of molasses, orange peel, and raisin.

This is our favorite way to brew most black teas, since the moderate water temperature and brew time increase sweetness and texture while limiting astringency. If you prefer a more intense brew, try increasing your water temperature. To further highlight sweetness (particularly with our mi xiang crops), reduce water temperature while increasing brew time.
