La Troupe de Mademoiselle Eglantine by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec (French, Albi 18641901 Saint-Andr-du-Bois) in 1896.
This vintage illustrated poster was created to advertise the appearance of a troupe of four dancers, Eglantine Demay, Jane Avril, Clopatre and Gazelle at London’s Palace Theater. Toulouse-Lautrec was a French painter, printmaker, draughtsman, caricaturist, and illustrator whose immersion in the colourful and theatrical life of Paris in the late 19th century allowed him to produce a collection of enticing, elegant, and provocative images of the sometimes decadent affairs of those times.
Art Nouveau is an international style of art, architecture, and applied art, especially the decorative arts, known in different languages by different names: Jugendstil in German, Stile Liberty in Italian, Modernisme catal in Catalan, etc. In English, it is also known as the Modern Style.
